Crews are transforming a Bridgeport ballpark, into a setting for world-class music.

On Thursday, city leaders, along with the developers and music promoters, held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Harbor Yard Amphitheater.

Back in December, they reached an agreement turn the former home of the Bridgeport Bluefish into a state of the art concert venue.

Demolition and site work is now underway for the project that is expected to create nearly 260 construction jobs, and millions of dollars in economic impact.

"This should be part of the renaissance of Bridgeport, as you're along I-95 you're going to come to a structure that's 120 feet high, which is 12 stories,” said Howard Saffan, of Harbor Yard Amphitheater.

Developers expect construction to take between 12 to 15 months.

There is no word on who the amphitheater's opening act will be.
